On Tuesday evening, a man hurriedly left his Pacific Palisades residence on a bicycle, loaded with bags containing his possessions and paintings, as a wildfire rapidly approached the area.

Donning protective goggles and amidst billowing smoke and soaring embers, the individual was among the 30,000 individuals who were instructed to evacuate due to the Palisades Fire that began on Tuesday morning in the windy and arid conditions of the coastal community in LA County.

“My backyard is currently ablaze,” he informed NBCLA. “I must evacuate immediately.”

At approximately 9:30 p.m., as the neighborhood was ablaze with several homes already on fire, a man fled on his bike. In a nerve-wracking moment, he entrusted paintings to NBCLA reporter Robert Kovacik for temporary safekeeping until he could retrieve them.

The Palisade Fire, along with two other wildfires, rapidly spread on Tuesday and continued into Wednesday morning, causing widespread devastation. A red flag warning is still in place for many areas in Southern California until Thursday.

As of Wednesday morning, the Palisades Fire had spread to nearly 3,000 acres in a residential area with a population of approximately 23,000, situated between the Santa Monica Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The fire is located just off Pacific Coast Highway, about 5 miles northwest of Santa Monica and 10 miles east of Malibu.

Evacuation orders were issued in the San Gabriel Valley, located east of Los Angeles, after the commencement of the Eaton Fire on Tuesday evening. The fire, which began near the foothill community of Altadena, also resulted in evacuation orders being issued.

On Tuesday evening, a fire known as the Hurst Fire began in Sylmar, which is situated in the northern part of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles.
